United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. James Entwistle said on Tuesday that no Nigerian has approached the American Embassies in Nigeria seeking asylum into the US to avoid persecution.

The ambassador who was guest on channels said that gay practice is wrong no matter how one looks at it adding that the US is however not against those who choose to practice it since it is part of their fundamental human rights.

He said the US government for now has no plans to withdraw economic aid or sanction Nigerian for anti-gay law. President Goodluck Jonathan penultimate week signed Anti-gay law into operation thereby criminalising same sex marriage in Nigeria. The law carries punishment up to 15 years for that contemplating same sex marriage while public display of affection carries 10 years jail.

The United Nations, United States, Britain and other European nations have condemned the law, with some threatening to sanction Nigeria.
