At least three (3) people aboard a passenger boat were Friday confirmed dead and seven(7) others rescued when the passenger boat conveying them to their destination capsized in Lagos waters.
Confirming the story, General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke- Osayintolu said the passenger boat was travelling from Coconut jetty in Apapa to Ojo town and that the boat capsized behind Navy Town.
“A local passenger boat with ten people on it capsized. It was going from Coconut Jetty in Apapa to Ojo town. It capsized behind Navy Town. Seven persons were rescued while three are missing”, he said in a text message confirming the incident.
He said the boat has been taken off from the scene of the incident which he identified as Irewe, near Ijegun in Satellite Town. He said the incident took place on Thursday night. He appealed to those using local speed boat, usually called canoe to always ensure that they use life jacket to prevent lose of life.
Incident of passenger boats capsizing is becoming a regular occurrence for commuters traveling along he coastline.
