OBAMA, FORMER US PRESIDENTS, BID FAREWELL TO MANDIBA TUESDAY

President of the United States, Mr. Barack Obama, former US Presidents, Jimi Carter, George W Bush, Bill Clinton and 26 US congressmen will be in South Africa Tuesday ahead of the burial of the first black President of South Africa, Mr. Nelson Mandela.

The memorial service will start at 11a.m and is expected to last three to four hours at Ellis Park stadium, Orlando Stadium and Dobsonville stadium, Mayor of Johannesburg, Mr. Parks Tau announced at a press conference on Sunday.

He called on members of the public to use a special bus service that would be made available to transport mourners adding that there will be no normal Rea Vaya bus services on the day of the memorial service and that metro buses will run a limited service.

Minister for Performance and Monitoring Evaluation, Mr. Collins Chabane who was also at the media briefing thanked all for love and affection for Mandela.

“What we have seen over the past few days reflects the true spirit of South Africa as a place where people of all backgrounds are working together to create a non-racial, non-sexist, prosperous society,” he said.
He said 13 African states have confirmed attendance, in addition to 15 from outside the continent adding that US, President and Mrs Obama will be accompanied by three former Presidents Carter, Bush (George W), Clinton and their spouses, and 26 Congress men.
