Nigeria ceases to exist by 12 midnight Tuesday, December 31, 2013
Human rights lawyer and co-ordinator Movement for New Nigeria (MNN) Dr. Fred Agbeyegbe has called for an urgent referendum to decide the basis to forge ahead as a new Nigeria.

The human rights lawyer who spoke in Lagos said Nigeria formally ceased to exist by 12 midnight on Tuesday, 31st, December, 2013 since Nigeria was amalgamated for a period of 100 years based on the Amalgamation Treaty of 1914 treaty signed by Lord Lugard and representatives of the three protectorates which existed as at January 1, 1914.

He argued that at the expiration of the hundred-years Nigeria automatically ceases to be a nation and will only remain as one on the world map.

He said what is needed now is a referendum to either design a new arrangement where all the regions can live together under mutually agreed terms or separate amicably for the general good of all concerned.

Agbeyegbe that MNN’s position has been duly endorsed by representatives of the Lower Niger Congress, the federation of Odua People, the Middle Belt Congress, and the Oporoza House which is an arm of the Ijaw ethnic group.
