Three policemen attached to the Lagos State anticrime outfit, Rapid Response Squad (RRS) are presently cooling their head behind bars after collecting money from a killer driver who surrendered herself after knocking down an official of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) brigade drafted to Ojota to enforce law and order.

We gathered that the woman, now at large surrendered herself to members of the RRS stationed at Ojota on sensing that she had knocked down, Mr. Taoreed Folorunsho, an official of KAI in mufti who was crossing Ikorodu Road on foot.

Sources at Ojota and at KAI office, Oshodi, told our correspondent that instead of apprehending the driver, the policemen negotiated and collected a fee from the woman and allowed her to go.

We gathered that another KAI official who was on standby rushed to the scene and attempted to convince the policemen that the victim of the accident was an employee of the Lagos State Government who works with KAI.

“But instead of listening to him, they joined other traders in the area and started beating him thinking that the man knocked down was just an ordinary trader”, the source said, adding that it was only when the RSS men were through with the beating that they decided to take Folorunsho who was lying in a poll of his blood to the Lagos State Trauma/Emergency Centre at the old toll gate on the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway.

“Folorunsho was already dead when they got to the centre”, the source told our correspondent. We gathered that the Commander of RRS and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hakeem Odumosu was forced to parade all the RSS men on duty when the incident took place, during which the KAI official who received the beating of his life for identifying his colleague picked out the policemen.

Our source said the money the collected was found on them when they were paraded but could not specify the exact amount. Our source however declined to give the names of the three RSS officers involved the crime, but he told our correspondent that they are currently detained by the RSS while investigation is said to be ongoing.

Meanwhile, Taoreed Folorunsho was buried at Igbora, his home town in Oyo State on Thursday, two days after the incident took place.

  • Life is so so cheap here; you can get away with almost anything in Africa. But for Devine providence, this would go, just like that! God help this corrupt nation.
