Rotimi Amaechi, Rivers State Governor

Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State believes that filmmakers need to do more to project Nigeria’s image to the international community.

Governor Rotimi Amaechi who spoke in Port Harcourt while receiving nominees of Best of Nollywood Awards told the filmmakers to put more professional touches in movie production so as to create a more responsible film industry.

Speaking through Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Nnabuihe Imegwu, the governor described the film medium as a mirror meant to portray society in a responsible way adding that those yet to be in Nigeria believe that Nigerians are what they are in the films.

“Nollywood represents Nigeria both at home and overseas. It is part of our everyday life here in Nigeria. Overseas, it is an export commodity and the world sees us through most of the movies we shoot and send out. “The film industry should, therefore, be responsible in representing the country and we should always support it, he said’’.
