Supreme Court sitting in Abuja, capital of Nigeria on Thursday affirmed that Governor Olusegun Mimiko (Labour Party) won the October 2012 governorship election in Ondo State.

Governorship candidate of the now defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu and that of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Wole Oke had approached the court to upturned result of the election after the Election Tribunal in the state and Court of Appeal affirmed Mimiko’s victory in the election.

But Justice Mary Peter – Odili ruled that the submission that names were multiplied n the voter register failed because the use of that register on the result of the election was not proved by the contending parties.

According to her, no evidence was adduced by Chief Wole Oke and Rotimi Akeredolu to show that those voters whose names appeared multiple times in the register voted multiple times in that election and subsequently dismissed the appeal for lacking in merit and upheld earlier judgement by the court of appeal and the tribunal.
