Chairman of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, Justice Afolabi Abdul Fatai Adeyinka, rtd., has said that he has never been influence by anybody on the outcome of Local Government elections in the state.
“I HAVE NEVER BEEN INFLUENCED ON THE OUTCOME OF ELECTIONS IN LAGOS” – LASIEC CHAIRMAN
The chairman made the revelation while speaking with our correspondent in Lagos. He said there is bound to be complains about the outcome of any election, stressing that politicians in Lagos State are matured and as such see no need to influence the commission in any way.
“No, I have never been influenced and in Lagos we have matured politicians. They are matured. If you look at the way they dress, the way they talk. But when there is an election there is bound to be complains”, he said.
Adeyinka explained that he has no knowledge that the results of an election conducted in the state was credited to another political party, adding that he is not surprised since the umpire carries the blame that follow the outcome of any election.
“I have no knowledge about allegations that the results of an election are given to another party. There is bound to be complains when an election is held, and it is the umpire that will carry the whole blame. So that is why they blame LASIEC. But we try on our own to be as transparent as possible and we try to be as independent as possible. And we put everything required for an election in place and then people go out to cast their votes”, he said.
He said he has never at any time being induced with funds to influence results of an election adding that the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola has respect for the commission and has neither used his commissioners nor any of his staff to influence decisions at the commission.
