Snowden.jpg, 2A Swedish professor of sociology has nominated the whistle blower, Edward Snowden for the Nobel Peace Prize. Stating the rationale or the nomination, the professor said that the NSA whistleblower could help “save the prize from the disrepute incurred by the hasty and ill-conceived decision” to give the 2009 award to Barack Obama.

In his letter addressed to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Stefan Svallfors praised Snowden for his “heroic effort at great personal cost, adding that by revealing the existence and the scale of the US surveillance programs, Snowden showed  that individuals can stand up for fundamental rights and freedoms.

Edward Joseph Snowden was born June 21, 1983 to an American, a former technical contractor for the United States National Security Agency (NSA) and a former employee of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) who leaked details of several top-secret U.S. and British government mass surveillance programs to the press.
