The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has set up a seven man disciplinary committee as part of effort to ensure that that there is discipline within the party. A statement issued by acting Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Tony Okeke said the former Minister of Transport, Alhaji Umaru Dikkohas been appointed as chairman of the committee.
UMARU DIKKO HEADS PDP DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE
He said the committee was set up in pursuant of articles 57 (1), (2), (3) of the constitution of the PDP. Dikko was head of the controversial Presidential Task Force on Rice during the era of former President, Alhaji Shehu Shagari from 1979-1983. Other members of the committee are King A.J Turner, the Obanema of Opume Kingdom, Bayelsa State; he will serve as vice chairman.
Also in the committee are Publisher of Champion newspapers, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Alh. Shuaibu Oyedokun, Hajiya Nana Aishat Kadiri, Barr. Hussaini Diraki and Senator Emmanuel Agboti who will serve as the Secretary. The committee will be inaugurated by the national Chairman of the party Alhaji Bamanga Tukur later on in the year. The party is setting up the committee just few days after it set up the National Reconciliation Committee, with Governor of Bayelsa State, Mr. Seriake Dickson as chairman. Although the party did not disclose details of what the Umaru Dikko committee will do but it is expected to issue guidelines and etiquettes for party members who have proved themselves to be above party hierarchy.
