Federation of International Football, (FIFA) has banned Cameroun from international football due to government’s interference in the country’s football federation.

The provisional ban came just few minutes after the country was awarded three World Cup qualifying points against fellow African team, Togo for fielding unqualified player against them.”The FIFA statutes oblige member associations to manage their affairs independently and with no influence from third parties,” world soccer’s governing body said in a statement to Reuters.

FIFA said a committee would be set up to revise Federation Camerounaise  de Football, FECAFOOT’s statutes and organise elections and that the ban would be lifted once the authorities “allow the new normalisation committee to enter the FECAFOOT headquarters and carry out its activities unhindered”.

This would have to happen before September 6,2013, otherwise Cameroon will not be able to play their final World Cup qualifier against Libya and could be expelled from the qualification process for next year’s tournament in Brazil.

“During the period of suspension, FECAFOOT may not be represented in any regional, continental or international competitions, including at club level, or in friendly matches. In addition, neither FECAFOOT nor any of its members or officials may benefit from any FIFA or CAF development programmes, courses or training during the suspension period.”

FIFA explained that that Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Issa Hayatou did not take part in the vote.
