FASHOLA DEALS WITH CORONA PUPILS
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola had a swell time with pupils from Corona School who stormed the State House, Alausa to spend some time with him. Fashola not only sat in their midst, he exchanged pleasantries with the pupils, giving them insights into his private life.
He also told the children the special name he should be called in the midst of his colleagues. He spoke on a number of issues among which is his refusal to mark his birthday in flamboyant style like some of his colleagues in the governors’ forum and preference for simple styles.
He told the lovely kids that his decision to study law was informed by the need to fulfill the wish of his grandmother who wanted him to take up the responsibility of managing her real estate.
He told the pupils that he did not study abroad since the educational system in Nigeria was very good then and saw no reason for going abroad, adding that the state government appreciates the contribution of private schools like the Corona Schools and public schools towards helping to reposition education in the country.
He explained that extremely cold weather was another reason he decided to stay in Nigeria for his studies. Fashola told the pupils that it will be wrong to describe him as an accidental governor since becoming a governor was not against his will but that he was rather encouraged to take up the responsibility, but that he would prefer to be described as a Lucky Governor.
On why he is not a teacher, the governor said as a student, there were so many good teachers available then and he felt that the good teachers would be there forever , adding that in the course of his life, he has tried to teach by helping people to learn.
The children also showed the governor what they could do besides being inquisitive by reciting the National Anthem and the pledge, crowning it with a special birthday song for the governor who recently celebrated his 50th birthday. They also exchanged gifts with the governor.
Speaking earlier, the Head of Corona Day Nursery School, Ikoyi, Mrs Esther Abakasanga said the pupils and Corona School management were indeed privileged to have been granted access by the governor.
