January 24, 2016 – At least 13 people have been confirmed dead and several others missing as a boat conveying tourists off the coast of Nicaragua capsized.

The boat according to Nicaraguan officials had 32 tourists on board, among which are 25 from Costa Rica, four American and three people from Nicaragua.

We gathered that the boat was travelling from Big Corn Island and Little Corn Island. El 19 Digital said an unspecified number of people were rescued, including the tour boat’s owner, Hilario Blandon.

Blandon, the boat’s owner, has been detained by Nicaraguan authorities, the agency said. Costa Rica’s foreign ministry said the search continues for the missing passengers.
