Twelve Soldiers to Die for Shooting GOC in Maiduguri

September 16, 2014 – Twelve out of the eighteen soldiers involved in mutiny against General Officer Commanding 7th Division, Major General Ahmed Mohammed have been sentenced to death.

The soldiers were court marshaled after they reportedly shot their superior whom they suspect was an informant for the radical Islamic sect, Boko Haram. They were infuriated when the corpses of their colleague killed by the sect were brought into their barrack and immediately opened fire on their GOC.

Five others were discharged and acquitted while one was jailed for 28 days with hard labour.
Ruling on the case, The President of the Military Court, Maj. Gen. C.C. Okonkwo, said the 12 soldiers were found guilty of criminal conspiracy, mutiny, attempt to commit murder (shooting at the vehicle of the GOC); insubordination to a particular order; insubordination and false accusation.

Those sentenced are Jasper Braidolor, David Musa, Friday Onuh, Yusuf Shuaibu, Igonmu Emmanuel, Andrew Ugbede, Nurudeen Ahmed, Ifeanyi Alukagba, Alao Samuel, Amadi Chukwuma, Alan Linus, and Stephen Clement.

Other members of the court are: Col. TS Nurseman, Col. TO Olowomeye, Col. IG Lassa, Lt.Col. JK Feboke, Lt. Col. CR Nnebeife, Major I Yusuf, Major TA Yakubu and Major AE Martins, while Lt. Col. AA Audu and Lt. Col. U Ukpe served as prosecutors.
