Space Mission Suffers Setback As NASA Rocket Explodes After Take-Off

October 29, 2014 – A space mission embarked upon by the National Aeronautics and Space Association (NASA) has suffered setbacks following explosion of the rocket few minutes after take-off in Virginia, United States.

The unmanned rocket hired by NASA carried supplies for the International Space Station thus losing everything it has on board. The explosion on Tuesday however caused Panic in Virginia with many wondering about what has actually happened.

The Antares rocket contracted through Orbital Sciences launched at 6:22 p.m. ET from a facility along the Atlantic Ocean and it had about 5,000 pounds of supplies and experiments.

“The rocket was carrying various things, including spacewalk tools for the space station, flight equipment, food, books and computer resources for the crew. Its total cargo was 4,883 pounds (2215 kilograms).

“It’s not as tragic as losing a life associated with it and so, we’re very happy to report that there were no injuries. That hardware, however, it’s very important and very high value to the company and to our customers,” Executive Vice President of Orbital Sciences Corp, Mr. Frank Culbertson told CNN.
