LAGOS, Nigeria – Ifa Priests in Yorubaland are angry with Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu I of Lagos, for his audacity in snubing the Oni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
The Oni, the first in rank among Yoruba obas had arrived at a public function and went ahead to great the Oba of Lagos. The Oba rebuffed the Oni with a wave of the hand when he stretched forth his hand for a hand shake with the Oba of Lagos.
Few days later, the Oba’s paraphenelia’s of office were reportedly burnt down by a mysterious fire. The Oni has denied any link with the mysterious fire.
But speaking with Crime Focus, Spokesperson of Ifa Priest, names withheld, said Oduduwa, the farher of Yorubas and the gods of the land are angry with Oba Akiolu.
He said the Oba is courting danger if he fails to appease the gods of the land to atone for his public show of arrogance.
“This is an affront on Oduduwa, all the gods in Yorubaland, including Esu, Sanpono, Sango, Obatala, Ogun, Elegbara, Yemoja, Osun to mention a few. The action of Oba Akiolu who is also a monarch is a desecration of the craddle of Yoruba progenitor, Oduduwa and Ile-Ife.
“His action prompts sending emissary of war (Paroko) from Ile-Ife to Lagos if this had happened in ancient times”, he said.
According to him, all Obas in Yorubaland are Alase ikeji orisa(second to the Supreme God) and representatives of Olodumare. They are reverred and honoured wherever they are, not only in their palaces, they must be accorded that respect by everyone, including their colleague-obas. Akiolu’s insulting behaviour is an affront on Olldumare who installed the Oni of Ife. The gods insist he must do penance for this sacrilege”, he warned.
