SHANGISHA, Lagos, Nigeria – There is uneasy tension in Shangisha, following the decision of the Lagos State Government led by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to impose one Jamiu Lawal on them as an Oba instead of elevating an existing bale.
The residents today (Friday, April 28, 2017) came out in an open show of solidarity to their Baale Chief Micheal Mutiu Ogundare.
Trouble is said to have started when the community was inform that a new Oba in the person of Mr. Jamiu Lawal has been install as the new Oba of the area.
According to one of the three CDA chairman in the area, Ahaji A.F.Bello, “the so called new Oba is not a known face in the area. We don’t know him or his family. They do not have anything that connect them with Shangisha.”
Bello said that it is because of this matter that they as representative of the people quickly wrote to the state governor His Excellency the Governor of Lagos state, the commissioner of police, to inform them of such an issue, as peace loving people.
He added that, “This case have been in court since 1997,and we had hope that the state government would have waited for the court to finish it first before taking the next line of action”.
“The imposition of an unknown person on us as our leader without the consent of our community is therefore unacceptable. He Jamiu Lawal is not known to us and does not live amongst us. We have written on this matter in the past that our support is for Chief Micheal Mutiu Ogundare” Bello said
Also speaking Mr. Orebanwo Olushola on only confirm the story, but said that the installation ceremony is presently on as we speak that is why we are protesting. He further added that “if not because we are peace loving people I can tell you that our people are ready for a physical fight with them he said.”
“We will fight this imposition, we will stand by our Baale , because he is the one we know. We know him and all his family because they have been with us here for a long time, we don’t know any person by the name Jamiu and we reject him as our leader” he added
We tried to get in contact with Mr.Jamiu Lawal without any success , however source say that there is an uneasy tension in the area.
