MOSCOW, Russia – The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation has approved federal laws aimed at strengthening the international legal framework of Russian-Iranian cooperation in the field of transfer of convicts and extradition




“On January 31, 2018, the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation approved federal laws “On Ratification of the Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran on Transfer of Persons Sentenced to Deprivation of Liberty” and “On Ratification of the Protocol on Amendments to the Treaty between the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic Iran on legal assistance and legal relations in civil and criminal cases of 5 March 1996 “, Justice Ministry said in a statement.

The main provisions of the agreement and protocol are aimed at strengthening the international legal framework for cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran in the field of transfer of convicts and extradition.

The documents shall enter into force 30 days after the date of receipt through the diplomatic channels of the last written notification from the parties of the implementation of the domestic procedures necessary for their entry into force, the statement added.
