NEW YORK, United States – The New York Police Department, NYPD has arrested one person after a deadly truck driver collided with a school bus on Chambers Street near Stuyvesant High School, killing eight people.




Reports say six people died on the spot, two others died at a nearby hospital while 13 people were injured.

New York City Schools Chancellor Carmen Farina said one of the students was in critical condition on Tuesday . “Today there was an act of terror in close proximity to several schools in lower Manhattan,” We stand with the entire city as we mourn this senseless loss of life. We are grateful to the first responders and school staff who work tirelessly to help keep our schools and communities safe,” Farina said.

The suspect believed to be from Islamic State of Syria and Iraq reportedly screamed “Allahu Akbar” after the crash and left a note saying he carried out the attack on behalf of ISIS, law enforcement officials tell ABC News.
In a tweet, President of the United States, Donald Trump described the “Suspect as ‘a very sick and deranged person’

Meanwhile The NYPD and FBI are seeking the public’s assistance in the investigation into the terrorist act that occurred in lower Manhattan earlier today.
“The public is urged to share any images or videos that could assist in the investigation,” NYPD said in a statement

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said there was no evidence of a wider, ongoing threat but he said more police would be monitoring the streets on Halloween night. The city’s annual Halloween parade in the West Village will still take place tonight, officials said.

Department of State said in a statement that it is closely monitoring the situation.
“We are referring all questions about the investigation to the FBI and the New York Police Department. We extend our condolences to the families of the victims and our prayers for recovery to those affected by this terrible act of terrorism in New York City”, Spokesman, Heather Nauert said.
