October 1, 2014 – Medical doctors and other health workers that battled the dread Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Lagos have indicated their readiness to go to Sierra Leone to assist, President Ernest Bai Koroma in ridding the country of EVD.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola made the revelation at an occasion to mark Nigeria’s 54th anniversary at the Police College in Ikeja, Lagos.

He commended the health workers for taking the lead in containment of the disease at a time when many health professionals were not willing to come out adding that the feat was proof that the country was not all about negative activities.

He said that by standing up against EVD, they exhibited the spirit of Lagos and commitment to national development.

Fashola advised Nigerians, especially the youths to focus on the nation’s blessings, rather than its deficiencies and to take on an attitude of service as exemplified by the nation’s founding fathers.

Recounting the excitement with which Independence Day was observed during his childhood, Governor Babatunde Fashola wants Nigerians to rekindle the spirit of National service.

He urged residents of Lagos to imbibe what he called “the spirit of Lagos” , which he described as an embodiment of values of integrity, honesty as well as selfless service. Fashola thanked the police parade group commanded by Superintendent Akpamke Akpamke as well as all those involved in the ceremony.
