IKEJA, Lagos, Nigeria – A retired Navy Captain, Jerry Ogbonna will on Wednesday, appear before an Ikeja High Court where he is standing trial for allegedly defrauding two banks, Fidelity Bank Plc and Diamond Bank to the tune of N90 million.




The 63 year old Navy Captain was arraigned alongside his company Obyke Consult Limited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for allegedly defrauding Fidelity Bank of N45 million between April and August 2012.

Ogbonna alongside his company also within the period allegedly defrauded Diamond Bank of N45 million while claiming that the money was meant for mobilization fee for the Department of Petroleum Resources.

Ogbonna who is facing a two count charge of stealing and fraud pleaded not guilty. His counsel, A.A Ossai however pleaded with the court to allow his client remain in the EFCC custody pending when his bail application would be heard.

The presiding Judge, Oluwatoyin Ipaye adjourned the matter to November 8 for continuation of trial.
