AGEGE, Lagos, Nigeria – A 30 year old businessman, Shotunde Gbenga had appealed to an Agege Customary Court to dissolve his marriage for reason of infidelity.

An estranged husband, Shotunde Gbenga has approached an Agege Customary Court in Lagos state, to dissolve the union between him and his partner, Adegbite Aderayo, for allegedly not being responsible and for being wayward.

The union, which started in 2011, in Lagos, has been blessed with one child. Gbenga who resides in Joseph Kano street, Ifako Lagos alleged that the respondent was not faithful.

The petitioner who claims there is no more love between him and the respondent also told the court that she is not responsible.

“I left for South Africa immediately after she became pregnant with our child but the report that I was getting over there fingering my wife was not pleasant. While in South Africa, I was constantly getting report on her being wayward. She was also said to be bringing in different men into the house while I was away.

Gbenga also alleged that while he visited home briefly, the respondent usually receive secret phone calls from different men. The petitioner who pleaded the court to dissolve the union between him and the respondent based on the fact that there is no more love between them and other irreconcilable differences.

The respondents, Aderayo debunked the allegations saying that all the petitioner said against her before the court are all false.

Aderayo, who pleaded not guilty however told the court that she is not ready for dissolution. I have no problem with the petitioner but with his family especially his mother who was always influencing him.

“When I discovered I was pregnant for the petitioner, I told him and he never denied it . Thereafter, he took me to his mother’s place where we both lived. I never knew he has impregnated another lady until she gave birth and they brought in the mother and child for the baby’s christening and when I asked him, he did not denied the fact that he fathered the child.

“After the ceremony I was ordered by my mother-in-law to move to a room in my father-in-law’s other house while my husband travelled to South Africa.
While he was away, his father fell sick and I was the only one taking care of him till his death.

The respondent also alleged that the petitioner’s mother kept finding fault with her.
“His mother constantly tells me to move out of the house after the death of his father despite the fact that I was the only one who took care of her late husband while he was in critical condition.

“While, Gbenga was in South Africa, we also got news that he had impregnated another lady who also bore another child for him. He now has three children with three women. His mother even quarrels with me for not congratulating her on the arrival of the baby born to her son in abroad”, she said.

However, with all the petitioner’s escapades, the respondent was still against the dissolution of the union. The president of the Court , Mr Phillips Williams adjourned the matter till March 31.
