IKEJA, Lagos, Nigeria – Mr. Adesina Ogunlana was today elected unopposed as chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, (NBA), Ikeja branch.
The election which was scheduled for today did not hold as the second candidate vying for the position, Mr. Dele Oloke opted to step down for Ogunlana to enable him complete the remaining one year of his two years tenure.
At a press conference a day before the election, Oloke had described the election as illegal. It was not clear why he had to step down for Ogunlana. But sources say, he step down for political reason since he cannot muster enough votes to win the election.
Speaking during the manifesto, Ogunlana said he stands by his manifesto during the last election and that he will work to ensure a vibrant bar and the bench.
He said he will neither increase fleet of vehicles of the secretariat nor will he expand on the present structure of the building housing the secretariat.
He said he will work for the welfare of lawyers in the branch. Answering questions on dearth of stamps for lawyers which has impeded practice of some young lawyers, he said the branch few days ago received 600 stamps from the national office and that the branch will continue to interface with the NBA at the national level for the welfare of members.
