FRENCH MINISTER RESIGNS OVER ANTI-TERROR LAW

January 27, 2016 – French Minister of Justice, Ms. Christiane Taubira has resigned.
Taubira has been a vocal critic of proposed anti-terror law expected to strip terror suspects of their citizenship.

Taubira, a black politician tweeted, “Sometimes staying on is resisting, sometimes resisting means leaving,” she tweeted.

President Francois Hollande has accepted her resignation.
“They agreed on the need to bring her role to an end at a time when debate on constitutional revision begins in the National Assembly, today,” the statement from Elysee Palace said.

She has been replaced by Jean-Jacques Urvoas, an ally of Prime Minister Manuel Valls, who has presented the bill to parliament. Appointment of Urvoas is expected to accelerate passage of the bill in parliament, been a strong supporter of anti-terror law.




Jean-Jacques Urvoas is a member of the National Assembly of France.
He represents the Finistère department, and is a member of the Socialiste, radical, citoyen et divers gauche. Fifty – six, he was born September 19, 1959.
