Forensic Audit Indicts NNPC of $1.48 Billion Fraud

February 5, 2015 – The forensic audit on accounts of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) ordered by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on accounts of allegations of missing $20 billion allegations by the former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has indicted the corporation.

The audit was carried out by PriceWaterHouse Coopers. The allegation raised by the former governor has also featured in recent electioneering campaign.

But in a statement, Auditor General of the Federation, Mr. Samuel Ukura said the auditing firm has called on the NNPC and Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria(SPDC) to refund a minimum of $1.48 billion to the Federation Account.

Sanusi initially said the total sum of $49.8 billion was missing but after reconciliation with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Sanusi settled for $12 billion but later said the missing money was $20 billion.
