IKEJA, Lagos, Nigeria – The Nigerian Police Force said it has recovered the sum of N834, 000 extorted from members of the public from policemen in the third quarter of 2017.




The police recovered the money following face to face interaction with citizens in Ondo State by the Police Complaint Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU).

It added that 16 officers were sanctioned for extorting members of the public.

According to the reports, the police received a total of 764 complaints in Q3 out of which 653, about 86 percent were resolved, five were found to be false, while 107 cases are still under investigation.

According to the reports, Lagos tops the lists with 180 complaints followed by Rivers State with 102 and FCT 87.
Sokoto and Plateau States recorded no complaint in the period under review, from July to September, 2017, the PCRRU said.
The police also approved the suspension of an ASP over corrupt practices.
