DOPING: IOC STRIPS GOLD MEDALIST, ARTUR TAYMAZOV, TWO OTHERS

LAUSANNE, Switzerland – The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has sanctioned three athletes, a gold medalist and two silver medalists for taking performance enhancing drugs at the Olympic Games Beijing 2008 and London 2012.





The athletes are Vasyl Fedoryshyn, 36(silver), Artur Taymazov 37(gold), all of Ukraine and Svetlana Tzarukaeva, 29(silver), of the Russian Federation.

The IOC Disciplinary Commission, composed for this case of Mr Denis Oswald (Chairman), Mrs Gunilla Lindberg and Dr Ugur Erdener found Fedoryshyn to have committed an anti-doping rule violation pursuant to the IOC Anti-Doping Rules applicable to the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in Beijing in 2008 (presence and/or use, of a Prohibited Substance or its Metabolites or Markers in an athlete’s bodily specimen) and is disqualified from the events in which he participated upon the occasion of the Olympic Games Beijing 2008, namely, the Men’s 55-60kg Freestyle wrestling event, in which he ranked second and for which he was awarded a silver medal, and has the silver medal, the diploma and the medallist pin obtained in the Men’s 55-60kg Freestyle wrestling withdrawn and is ordered to return these.

The committee also disqualified Taymazov from the event in which he participated upon the occasion of the Olympic Games Beijing 2008, namely, the Men’s 96-120kg Freestyle wrestling event, in which he ranked first and for which he was awarded a gold medal, and has the gold medal, the diploma and the medallist pin obtained in the Men’s 96-120kg Freestyle wrestling event withdrawn and is ordered to return these.




Tzarukaeva was also found to have committed an anti-doping rule violation pursuant to the IOC Anti-Doping Rules applicable to the Games of the XXX Olympiad in London in 2012 (presence, and/or use, of Prohibited Substances or its Metabolites or Markers in an athlete’s bodily specimen) and is disqualified from the Women’s 63kg weightlifting event in which she participated upon the occasion of the Olympic Games London 2012;has the silver medal, the medallist pin and the diploma obtained in the Women’s 63kg weightlifting event withdrawn and is ordered to return these.
