PORT HARCOURT, Rivers, Nigeria – The Rivers State Government has rolled out a competition to select wrestlers ahead of the 2017 Commonwealth Wrestling Championship.
The vision, according to the state government is basically to hunt for hidden talents in wrestling, groom them for future national and International competitions to win laurels and also gain employment.
The competition will be chaired by a renowned wrestler who is a lawmaker in Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Dr. Daniel Boladei Igali, President Nigeria Wrestling Federation, NWF.
The 2017 Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike National Wrestling competition will not only do the Rivers man proud, but will equally attract investors into the game of wrestling by way of sponsoring youths into nation and international events, the organizers said.
The Governor Wike National Wrestling Competition is a prelude to 2017 Commonwealth Wrestling Championship slated to hold in Johannesburg, South Africa from 14th to 17th December which our sons and daughters will be participating.
“This brain child of the Governor will not only help in talents hunt of talented wrestlers from the state, but will also help in reducing youths restiveness and repositioning the youths to a meaningful life, promoting peace, unity and harmony in the entire region. The state will also gain more global recognition in sports developments”, the organizers have said.
As Port Harcourt will be agog with Governor Wike Wrestling Festival , the event would attract sports lovers, Journalists, captains of industries and investors to the state, thereby boosting the state Internally Generated Revenue IGR.
The hospitality industries are not left behind in this event, as hotels and eateries will also share from the booties of the Governor Wike National Wrestling competition.
This wonderful gesture of Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has demonstrated that the Governor do not believe in playing politics with the future of the youths, he does not only believe in building roads, schools, hospitals and ensuring prompt payment of civil servants salaries as at when due, but also believes in sports developments.
The continuous hosting of the National Wrestling Competition by our amiable Governor, Chief Barr Ezenwo Nyesom Wike,CON,GSSRS, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, will encourage our youths in wrestling, curb most social vices and improve the state Internally Generated Revenue to boost the state economy.
