WOOD GREEN, United States – A 62 year old man identified as Joseph Kelly has died after engaging in open argument with two teenagers in Wood Green. The dead man, according to police is unmarried and has no wife.
Detectives are appealing for information and witnesses that would lead to arrest of the teenagers. Officers are particularly keen to trace the two teenagers who they believe had argued with the man before his collapse.
Police were called at 00:19hrs on Wednesday, 12 April, to reports of an altercation and an unconscious man in Moselle Avenue, N22.
Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended the scene and the 62-year-old man was taken to a north London hospital where he later died. The deceased has been formally identified as Joseph Kelly of Moselle Avenue, N22.
Mr Kelly was a fitter and welder by trade. He was unmarried with no children. He was born and grew up in Tullamore, County Offaly in Ireland. His work took him all over Europe, but in more recent years he had settled in North London where he had a close circle of friends in Noel Park.
A special post-mortem examination held on 13 April at Haringey Mortuary did not establish a definitive cause of death, but made reference to Mr Kelly’s generally poor recent health. Officers await the results of further tests.
Detectives from Haringey CID are investigating. No arrests have been made and enquires continue.
DCI Luke Marks, the officer leading the investigation, said: “The death is not being treated as a homicide, however a police investigation into the circumstances of the death continues.
“I am very keen to trace anyone who saw Mr Kelly in Moselle Avenue, and in particular I wish to speak with two teenagers who had argued with him shortly before he collapsed. I would urge those young men to get in touch and simply tell me what happened.”
