LAGOS, Nigeria – A trigger-happy policeman from Lion building, Lagos Island have killed one youth, identified as Qouzeem Hassan while trying to quell youth restiveness at Wahab Folawiyo Street last Wednesday.
An eye witnesses said there was conflict between some youths from Ita-Alagbaa area and Agarawu boys, forcing residents to call on the police.
We gathered that the trigger happy policeman who was among the team dispatched to the area was dead drunk and immediately the team reached Alagbaa area, he got down and started firing to scare the rampaging youths.
“This policeman called ‘Chelsea’ first shot a bullet and when he got to Folawiyo junction and decided to enter that street, he missed his leg after climbing the curvet and the rope he used to tie his riffle cut-off and the gun fell. Since he had put the riffle on rapid, it started pumping out bullets sporadically which hit Qouzeem Hassan who was in front of 21 Wahab Folawiyo Street and was performing ablution”.
“The bullets hit Qouzeem at the stomach, right hand and knee. That policeman immediately ran to the victim and carried him with their vehicle to the Lagos General hospital for medical attention”, the eye witness revealed.
It was reliably gathered that the policeman was immediately arrested and detained at Lion building but was later transferred to State CID, Panti when the victim died at the hospital, for further investigation.
Sources also revealed that the same policeman did same thing in 2014 when he killed a middle aged man when he was drunk.
Meanwhile, the Police refused to release the corpse of the deceased to the family who wants to take his remains to Ilorin, his home town for burial.
All efforts to get the PPRO, Lagos Command to shed more light on the issue has proved abortive as her phone number was busy at the time of filling this report.
