Terrible winter storms hit several states in the United States

ALABAMA, United States – The governors of Alabama and Georgia States, Robert J. Bentley and Nathan Deal have declared state of emergency in their various states as terrible winter storms hit both states.

The state of emergency will be in place from January 5, 2017 to February 4, 2017. The governor have also put in place emergency produces in the affected states.


Bentley declared a state of emergency Thursday afternoon in all counties in the state and activated 300 soldiers from the Alabama National Guard to assist mission support teams and command staff.

Meanwhile, there have been reporting crashes due to ice accumulation. Local media report that many of the crashes occurred between the 16 MM-23 MM south bound in Greene and Sumter Counties.

Deal of Georgia declared a state of emergency on Friday noon. The governor also said all non-essential state employees can leave the office at that time noon to be home by the time the snow is slated to start at 4 p.m.

On Thursday, the Georgia Emergency Management Agency warned North Georgia residents to prepare for the winter storm and urged people to have enough food and other supplies on hand to stay in their homes for three days. Several school districts in metro Atlanta will dismiss students early on Friday.

The Georgia Department of Transportation began working days ahead of the storm to make sure they are ready when wintry weather moves into central and north Georgia, including metro Atlanta, Friday night into Saturday, reports WALB.com.




Incidents have also been reported in Oklahoma where many school districts, including Oklahoma City, Edmond, Moore and Norman canceled classes on Friday, KOCO reports. The University of Central Oklahoma, Oklahoma City Community College, Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma City University and all campuses of Langston University were closed.
The storm also caused havoc in Tennessee and other places.
