Lagos, Nigeria, Oct 24, 2016 – A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court today released on bail 23-year-old unemployed man, James Adavo.
He was arraigned for allegedly stealing a Samsung S6 galaxy phone valued at N140, 000, contrary to section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The Magistrate, Abiodun Etti, who gave the ruling, also gave the accused a surety, who must provide an evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
According to the prosecutor, Innocent Uko, the accused committed the offence on Oct. 17 at No. 27, Limca Road, Ibereko in Badagry.
The prosecutor alleged, “The accused stole a Samsung S6 phone, belonging to a woman, Miss Senyo Balogun. The woman was listening to music on her phone while walking along the road when the accused came and snatched the phone from her. As he was running away with the phone he was caught,” Uko said.
The accused however pleaded not guilty and his lawyer, Mr. Akin Adewale, urged the court to grant him bail on liberal terms, promising that he will not jump bail.
The case was adjourned to Nov. 17 for further hearing.
