Nigeria, Sep 28, 2016 – Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu has shot into the lead as results from agents trickle into the monitoring room of Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) office in Edo State.
According to results that have come in (unofficial), Pastor Ize Iyamu has already won Oredo Local Government Area, polling 55, 368 votes while candidate of the All Progressive Congress(APC) Godwin Obaseki got 22,110 votes.
PDP also won Igueben and Esan Central. So far the PDP has won 7 out of 10 local governments in results already declared.
Ize Iyamu won his ward, Ward 1, Orionwon, with PDP polling 369 votes while the APC got 26 votes.
In ward 6, Efandion, Uromi, PDP scored 1, 726 votes while the APC scored 785 votes.
However, after collation of 520 polling units out of 2, 672 polling units in Edo State, Obaseki of the APC has polled 53,238 votes while Ize-Iyamu polled 55,112 with 7, 391 votes declared invalid.
However, the national chairman of APC, Chief John Odigie Oyegun also lost his ward to PDP in the election.
Reacting to the development, the PDP alleged that Governor of the State, Comrade Adams Oshiomole is in a secrete meeting with INEC officials planning to upturn the results.
In the statement signed by Publicity Secretary of the party, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, the party said it has received 1, 800 out of the 2, 627 polling units, spread across the 192 wards in 18 local government areas.
“We can confirm that our party has attained a near unassailable lead in the Edo State gubernatorial election”, the party said.
EDO: APC PLANNING OVER NIGHT RIGGING TO OVERTURN OUR VICTORY -PDP
1. Having received results from our agents at approximately 1800 of the 2627 polling units spread across the 192 Wards in the 18 Local Government Areas of Edo State, we can confirm that our party has attained a near unassailable lead in the Edo State gubernatorial election.
2. The results so far confirm to us that our candidate has garnered approximately 55% of the total votes cast by voters. We have every reason to be confident that we will maintain this trend and coast home to victory.
3. However, we are aware that members of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) led by Governor Adams Oshiomole, in collusion with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) led by Mrs. Amina Waziri, are relentless in their efforts to manipulate the results of this election. We are aware that Governor Oshiomole is currently moving from collation centre to collation centre with the objective of manipulating the results as much as possible.
4. We will like to reiterate our earlier notes of warning. The Edo people, and our party, will resist any attempt to subvert the collective will of the people as expressed by their votes today.
5. We urge our members and supporters in the state to continue keeping the faith by guarding their votes at the Ward Collation Centres and Local Government Collation Centres. Eternal vigilance is the price we all have to pay for victory.
