Haci Ibramahain Koc convicted 28 after raping woman in his taxi

London, Sept, 23, 2016 – A former mini-cab driver, Haci Ibramahain Koc ( 53) has been jailed for 14 years after his conviction for a knife point rape of woman 28 years ago.

Koc, of Newton Abbott, Devon, was sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court on Thursday, 22 September, for the attack in May 1994. He was found guilty on the same day following a trial.

Koc was caught after the Met’s Complex Case Team, which is part of the Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command, reviewed the unsolved rape of the 28-year-old woman from 1994.

The review established a forensic link to Koc who provided a DNA sample to police for an unrelated matter in February 2016. His DNA profile provided a one-in-a-billion match to the one obtained in 1994 from the victim’s clothes and he was arrested a short time later.

On 16 May 1994 the victim went with a friend to a night club in the West End where they stayed until the early hours of 17 May. The victim left the night club on her own at around 02:30hrs and got into the front passenger seat of a mini-cab to be taken to her home.

This mini-cab was driven by Koc and during the journey he stopped the vehicle and dropped the victim’s seat backwards. He then held a knife to her face and cut off a lock of her hair and raped her. The victim was able to get out of the mini-cab and Koc drove away.
Detective Inspector Keith Braithwaite, of the Serious and Complex Case Team, said:

“Despite the overwhelming forensic evidence against Koc, he still denied the charge against him and went to trial putting his victim in the witness box forcing her to relive her ordeal 20 years on.

“Koc has shown little if any remorse for this horrific crime. I hope the verdict and sentence gives some closure to the victim and would like to thank her for her courage and dignity throughout.

“I would like to reassure the public that offences of this nature are a rarity. The Met will strive to bring such offenders to justice no matter what the passage of time may be. The Met treat all sexual offences seriously and would encourage anyone who has suffered such incidents to report the matter to police.”
