LASU SUSPENDS 3 FOR KIDNAPPING ATTEMPT

Lagos, Nigeria, July 29, 2016 – Authorities of the Lagos State University(LASU) today suspended three students for attempting to kidnap President of the Lagos State Student Union Government, Mr. Tayo Sekoni.

The affected students are Oladayo Mojeed Babatunde, a 500 level student from the school of transport, Adebanjo Fatai Adekoya, a 500 level student from the faculty of law and Fola Kosoko newly admitted into the university.

In a statement, the school said the affected students attempted to kidnap Tayo Sekoni, on his way home on Thursday, 28th July, 2016, adding that they remain suspended pending their appearances before the Students’ Disciplinary Committee.

“The aforementioned students/graduate have been strongly instructed not to participate in the socio-academic activities of the prestigious Lagos State University until the suspension is lifted. In addition, the suspended students/graduate are not to be seen within the University premises except on invitation”, the statement added.

Meanwhile the university’s “Give Back Project” Happy Hours Health Programme, first of its kind in the history of the university has ended on a successful note with well over five hundred people including staff, students and guests receiving free medical check up.

The medical outreach which had a combination of Medical Personnel of the University’s Health Centre and Medical Students of Lagos State University College of Medicine [LASUCOM], Ikeja as volunteers started attending to people as early as 8:00a.m and the exercise did not end until around 4:00p.m in the day.

The Health check up include blood pressure, cholesterol, sugar level, dental, pap smear for cervical cancer [women only] eye amongst other. Some were referred to the University Health Centre for further consultation and wider medical attention. Some participants equally went home with free drugs, courtesy of the Chief Medical Director, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital [LASUTH], Ikeja, Lagos.

The Director, Directorate of Advancement, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello described the event as highly successful with the large turn out of members of staff and students for the free medical check up. She added, that at the planning stage, the Directorate was sceptical, if people would embrace the gesture.

She thanked the Vice Chancellor, the Management Team, Staff, Students and all the volunteer Medical Personnel for their selfless service.

“This project will go on. We plan to hold it quarterly, we will go back to the drawing board. It is community give back. We want to reach all communities in Lagos State. All the Five Divisions. We will need the support of our colleagues here, just like LASUCOM did today. It may not be medical outreach in some places, it may be education, enlightenment on laws in some other places. On the Medical Outreach, the Vice Chancellor, Professor ‘Lanre Fagbohun had assured us it would continue”, she said.
