Nigeria, May 26, 2016 – In recognition of the crucial role that information management plays in the success or failure of any administration, the Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Information and Strategy, will soon set up Citizens’ Information Centres across the state to serve as a one-stop-shop for all residents to access public information.
The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, disclosed this today at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Secretariat, Alausa during the Y2016 Media Press Briefing of the Lagos State Government in commemoration of the first year anniversary of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode led administration in the State.
He reiterated the desire of Governor Ambode to run an all inclusive government in which everyone would have a voice, saying “the need to make this exhilarating model of government a success calls for creativity and innovation in the management of public information.”
“Though the task of managing public information and perception in a cosmopolitan place like Lagos State where over 80 percent of the nation’s media has more than a presence is a complex one, but the unwavering support of Governor Ambode has, however, made the job an exciting one.
“Indeed, the coming on board of the Akinwumi Ambode administration has greatly enhanced professionalism at the Ministry of Information and Strategy.”
Ayorinde hinted that the Ministry also intends to set up Bureau Centres across the State where government activities will be reported live, stressing that this initiative is to give a boost to the inclusive governance policy of the present administration.
He added that the present administration’s promise to run a government of transparency and accountability during its inauguration on 29th May, 2015 underscore its strict adherence to giving account of stewardship to Lagosians through the Quarterly Town Hall meetings and other platforms.
The Commissioner averred that the State owned television station, Lagos Television (LTV), has been repositioned to further carry out its duties for prompt dissemination of information to the public through the approval and release of funds for the purchase of an Outside Broadcast (OB) Van complete with four (4) High Definition Cameras as well as the purchase of six (6) stream boxes that will empower the station to relay breaking news from any corner of the State.
He also disclosed that, buoyed by the renewed attention of the state government through change of management and renovations carried out at the station, the Lagos Television has moved from its previous 7th position on viewers rating log to the 3rd position.
