Nigeria, May 04, 2016 – A lawmaker representing Ahoada East Constituency II in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Edison Ehie today appealed to cultists operating in the state to surrender their arms and stop the senseless killing.

He warned that those who refused to toe the path of peace and repentance would face the full wrath of the law, stressing that the authorities would not fold their arms and allow a few individuals to disrupt the peace.

The lawmaker, who made the appeal in Port Harcourt following the attacks by gunmen suspected to be cultists of Ula-Apata and Edoha communities, which claimed some lives, stressed the need for the cycle of killings to stop..

The lawmaker, who strongly condemned the killings, noted that it was barbaric and unacceptable, and urged security operatives to redouble their efforts to protect lives and properties in the area.

“I condemn in the strongest terms the killing of innocent persons and the wanton destruction of properties by armed youths. The people from the affected communities have done nothing wrong to deserve such attack. We are urging our people to be vigilant and report suspects to security operatives. We shall not under any sense condole acts of cultism and militancy. Our people are peaceful and law-abiding.

“We urge our youths to lay down their arms, and embrace peace, because we won’t tolerate senseless killings. ”
Ehie appealed to security operatives to unravel those behind the attacks, and bring them to justice. Meanwhile, the state commissioner of police, Musa Kimo, has said that the police were on the trail of those behind the perpetrators, just as he said that only four persons lost their lives during the attacks.
