October 04, 2015 – The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has condemned the Friday night’s suicide bombing in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and Saturday’s in Maiduguri, describing it as needless and mindless.

In a statement signed by its President, Comrade Bobboi Bala Kaigama and Secretary General, Comrade (Barr.) Musa Lawal, appealed to the sect to stay action and listen to the voice of reason, adding that human life is sacrosanct therefore ought not be to be taken for whatever reason by any person.

The statement however charged that soldiers and the policemen should be drafted to different parts of the cities respectively, including the interior villages.

It is expedient now, added the statement that, intelligence reports be stepped up especially as it is being rumoured that the insurgents could have sent out more suicide bombers to the FCT and some states in the North East.

” Everyone knows that the security operatives are doing so much to curtail the activities of the sect, but we would like to add that they become more and more proactive, to prove superiority of strategies” stressed the congress.

Congress said the activities of the sect and other challenges could become major impediments to the nation’s economic growth.

“We had thought that since we have been able to overcome our election challenges the next thing would be building a united and economically virile country. Unfortunately , the activities of the sect, kidnappers and looters of our commonwealth have constituted serious derailing factors”, it noted.

The congress charges the government and security operatives to improve on intelligence report, do a detailed investigation on the source(s) of the sect’s arms and their possible sponsors. The Congress also called all and sundry to support government efforts to stamp out terrorism from the country, while expressing condolence to the families affected by the blast.
