How soldiers nabbed Lagos bank robbery suspects

July 7, 2015 – The Nigeria Police Force(NPF) on Monday paraded four suspects who participated in the robberies that took place in Ikorodu.

The robbers had invaded Ikorodu penultimate week and robbed two banks carting away over N80 million from both banks before escaping through the waterways.
The police had placed a bounty of N5 million for information leading to their arrests.

We gathered that soon after the robbery, one of the suspects ran into a military checkpoint on the Sagamu-Benin expressway on his way to Okitipupa in Ondo State.

The soldiers at the checkpoint became suspicious when they found in his bag minted bundles of bank notes with CBN seal and he was promptly arrested.

The soldiers alerted the Lagos  Police Command on the development. Further interrogation led to the arrest of three other members of the gang.

One of the suspects however confessed that gang members were  12 and that the onslaught on Ikorodu was led by a young woman in her twenties.

Recent attacks on Lagos by robbers has forced the Lagos State House of Assembly to pass a resolution compelling the Lagos State Government to beef up security along the waterways using special marshals.

The resolution also called on the Federal Government to deploy officers of the Nigerian Navy to the waterways.

The Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode also visited Naval Headquarters in Abuja to intimate it of the need to beef up security on the Lagos waterways.
