May 25, 2015 – Over 500 people are said to have died as deadly heatwave sweeps across India with a temperature hovering above 48 degree Celsius.
At least 140 people are reported to have been killed in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in the last two days. Authorities are advising people to stay indoors and drink plenty of fluid.
India has experienced heat wave since April 2015. We gathered that the worst-hit states are Andhra Pradesh where officials say at least 246 people have died from the high temperatures and 62 people dead from sunstroke.
The incident is so severe that most residents have resorted to soaking themselves in cold water.
“The majority of the victims are people who have been exposed to the sun directly, usually aged 50 and above and from the working classes
“We are asking them to take precautions like using an umbrella, using a cap, taking a huge quantity of liquids like water and buttermilk, and wearing cotton clothing, ” says Special Commissioner for Andhra Pradesh Disaster Management Department, Tulsi Rani said.
