Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola addressing residents of the state to mark his 2,800 days in office

January 27, 2015 – Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola today condemned reported attacks on President Goodluck Jonathan’s convoy in Borno State, noting that nobody has the right to attack him.

Fashola who was speaking at an occasion to mark his 2,800 days in office said the President has the right to campaign anywhere in Nigeria.

“Governor of Bauchi was reported if that report is correct that those who attacked the president’s convoy where not APC members, because APC was accused of that attack, that they were members of the PDP who were disgruntled about the governorship primaries in Bauchi State and nobody must attack the president, he has a right like anybody to move freely around especially at his campaign time, and this is not about violence, the vote is really the choice that we need to make, so I want to be clear on that”, he said.

Fashola who also spoke on the peace accord signed by the President Jonathan and Presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) said that the Peace Accord was not more than mere gentleman agreement without any formal documentation.

“Some things have been done without any formal documentation. Men and women just shake hands and giver their words in honor and say we will do this. So it is important for us to understand that it is what you do after”, he said.

Fashola also castigated some supporters of the President whom he alleged to have said heavens will fall if the President loses in the February elections.

He said the right thing for the President to do is to disclaim such utterance if he is actually true to the Peace Accord.

“Now some people have come to say that If the President loses heavens will fall. It is not the President that said so, but it is being said on his behalf, if he is true to the accord, he must disclaim those kind of statement”, the governor said.

The governor who also took time to speak on his achievements noted that while the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) led government is bringing in diesel engine to run its train, his government intends to bring electric engines .

He said unlike in other climes where intercity rails are built through collaboration by the state and the Federal Government, he said the intercity train embarked upon by Lagos and the Rivers State government are undertaken solely by state governments.
