November 26, 2014 – Former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari has said that nobody can turn Nigeria into Christian or Muslim state.
Buhari who spoke at an interactive forum put together by the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Port Harcourt said he is not an Islamic fundamentalists as alleged in some quarters.
The Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi also spoke in defense of the former general, noted that APC is not an Islamic party.
According to him, APC has no intentions to Islamize Nigeria if it wins the Presidency in 2015. “APC is not an Islamic Party. This is so because, when General Muhammad Buhari (rtd) was Nigeria’s Head of State as a young man, he did not Islamize Nigeria, and to do that he needs the endorsement of the National Assembly to debate over the issue.
“Buhari cannot Islamize Nigeria. Don’t be perturbed by what our detractors. As a father to all of those Christians, Buhari gives Sunday as a free day to these his domestic staff to go to Church and worship God. So, no one can believe what our detractors are saying about Buhari and the APC,” Amaechi said.
Chairman of the party, Mr. John Oyegun who said he is a Christian said it is impossible for APC to Islamize Nigeria if it wins the election.
