November 25, 2014 – The Senate today met behind closed doors with service chiefs to review emergency rule in the North-east where thousands of Nigerians, young and old have been killed by members of he radical Islamic sect, Boko Haram.
Speaking on the floor of the Senate, President of the Senate, Mr. David Mark said members noted the challenges confronting the Nigerian troops in their fight against terror. He did not however speak on request by President Goodluck Jonathan to extend emergency rule in the North-east.
Addressing reporters after the session, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe said some problems working against success in the prosecution of the war against terror has been noted.
“Of course the military continued to insist that they need the state of emergency to be able to embark on operation in a manner that will lead to quick resolution of the crisis”, he said.
The Senate will converge on Wednesday to deliberate on emergency rule in the North-east.
