October 23, 2014 – Governors of the All Progressive Congress (APC) today met in Ilorin, Kwara State where they agreed to press forward with a consensus candidate ahead of the party’s primaries scheduled for November.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the APG Governor’s Forum, Owelle Rochas Okorocha said the governors have agreed to move ahead with a consensus candidate instead of allowing all the candidates to go in for the primaries.

Candidates looking for the APC ticket include former Head of State Major General Muhammadu Buhari, Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Kano State Governor, Mr. Rabiu Kwakwanso and Publisher of Leadership, Mr. Sam Nda Isaiah.

Okorocha said the decision of the governors to go ahead with a consensus candidate was in the best interest of Nigeria adding that the approach will enable the party to come out with a formidable candidate for the 2015 general elections.

He said that governors will meet with leadership of the party to pacify them to accept the idea.

They also used the occasion to hold a valedictory session for ousted governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi whom Okorocha described as the best governors based on the way he carried out his activities while he presided over Ekiti State.

While responding, Fayemi thanked the forum for their support all these while.
