Leading the pack of Nigerians is former Secretary of the National Conscience Party (NCP)Dr. Femi Aborisade. According to him, President Goodluck Jonathan is like a God in Nigeria adding that Nigerian look forward to him to ensure that the girls are released from captivity, stressng that the Nigerian child is entitled to protection as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution.
Also speaking, former President Civil Liberty Organisation (CLO) Mrs. Ayo Obe said this is not a time for politics, noting howerver that though the crusade to bring back the girls is interpreted to have political undertone, government can however neutralize it the day the girls are rescued, stressing that Nigerians believe that the president can bring back the girls safe and alive.
In her opening address, Convener Women Arise, Dr. Joe Oke-Odumakin said the message is for Nigerians to unite with the President in ensuring that the girls are brought back safe and alive.
In her reaction, Hon. Funmi Tejuoso of the Lagos State House of Assembly called on the President to exchange the girls with Boko Haram, stressing that that members of the sect could be arrested at another time since criminals are bound to commit crime even after they are set free.
She said members of the Boko Haram sect are not Muslims but that they are mainly using Islam as cover up, noting that Islam is a religion of peace and that adherents of Islam neither kidnap nor rape girls. She appealed to leader of the sect, Abubakar Shekau to use the holy month of Ramadan to release the abducted girls.
In his contribution, President Golden Nollywood Ambassadors, Mr. Saheed Balogun said the fight to eradicate the menace of Boko Haram is a collective fight, adding that Nigerians must rise up and begin to report members of the sect wherever they are found. He said that as a Muslim, he has no business with kidnapping and killing wondering what he would preach if he results to violence.
Also speaking, Segun Sega Awosanya corroborated the contribution of Balogun, stressing that it is wrong to blame those at the top, noting that the target of the sect is to cause division hence they strike churches, mosque and even result to ethnic killings, calling on Nigerians to unite to fight the menace called Boko Haram.
“Do not be used and let us not blame the man at the top, report them to the authority”, he advised.
Rounding up the proceeding was the musical presentation of the 11 year old, Angelique Nwabueze better known as D’Angelic, aka 9ja Queen. In her album, bring back the girls, she appealed to Boko Haram to release the girls stressing that the nation is mourning especially now that the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan is crying.
She told journalists later that she is sad about the situation because the girls ought to be in the class reading for exams.
